Bush Tomato

Bush Tomato is also known as the Desert Raisin or Kutjera and grows naturally throughout the central desert areas of the Northern Territory and South Australia.  There are more than 100 species of bush tomato in Australia but only six are known to be edible.

The fruit of these small desert plants have been a staple food of First Nations peoples for thousands of years. They are a rich source of minerals, especially potassium, and are high in Vitamin C.

Kutjera have a distinctive raisin/caramel/spicy/smoky flavour which makes the dried fruits ideal for use in curries, stews, soups, pastas and salsas.  Ground kutjera can be sprinkled on baked vegetables and used in sauces.
