Ada Bird Petyarre (c.1930 - 2009)
This painting by First Nations artist Ada Bird Petyarre depicts the breast paint-ups which were used in traditional women's ceremonies in the Central Desert area of the Northern Territory.
Ada Bird Petyarre was born around 1930 on Old Utopia Station, approximately 270kms north east of Alice Springs. She was the eldest of the acclaimed "Seven Sisters" - Ada, Myrtle, Gloria, Nancy, Kathleen, Violet and Jean Petyarre - all of whom have become well known artists.
Acrylic on canvas. Stretched on timber frame and ready to hang.
